Egypt's Locally Assembled Car Sales Rise 29.8% in First 5 Months of 2026
A recent report from the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) revealed a notable growth in Egypt's car market during the first five months of this year. Sales of locally assembled vehicles increased by 29.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching 43,466 units, up from 33,490 vehicles sold in the first five months of 2025.
Imported Passenger Car Sales Surge
In a related development, the data also showed a significant rise in imported passenger car sales during the same period, with a 54% increase to 37,905 vehicles, compared to 24,590 units recorded in the first five months of 2025. This growth reflects improving demand across various car segments in the Egyptian market, both for locally assembled and imported vehicles.
Market Performance Insights
This positive performance comes amid increasing consumer interest in car purchases, supported by factors such as diverse available offerings and relative price stability in some models. The AMIC figures indicate that locally assembled vehicles continue to hold a substantial share of the total market, highlighting the importance of local manufacturing in meeting consumer needs.
On the other hand, imported car sales recorded a higher relative growth rate, which may reflect a shift in some buyers' preferences toward imported models, especially with a wide range of global brands available. The report shows that the total market volume (both locally assembled and imported) during the first five months of 2026 exceeded 81,000 units, confirming an overall sector recovery.
Market analysts are closely monitoring these trends, expecting continued growth in the coming months, particularly with the upcoming launch of new models and intensive marketing campaigns by dealers and distributors. AMIC's data remains a key reference for analyzing the performance and developments of the Egyptian car market.
