Egypt Studies Ambitious Plan to Double Car Production in 5 Years
A high-level government meeting took place in Cairo today. Egyptian Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem met with a delegation from the Presidential Advisory Council for Scientists and Experts, alongside heads, leaders. Representatives of car manufacturers and feeding industries. The discussion revolved around a study prepared by the council aiming to double car production in Egypt over the next five years.
Study Axes: Deepening Local Manufacturing
The study includes serious steps towards deepening local manufacturing of car components. The focus is on metal parts and the car body, enhancing industry competitiveness and supporting Egypt's transformation into a regional hub for car manufacturing. The plan is ambitious, and the numbers indicate the potential for a significant leap in local production.
Building an Integrated Industrial System
The meeting also addressed the importance of building an integrated industrial system linking car assembly plants with local supply chains capable of producing components that meet global specifications set by parent companies. Leveraging Egyptian engineering talents in areas like engineering design, tooling development, molds, industrial processes, and testing was a central point of discussion.
Several future proposals to develop the car components industry were on the table. Expanding the supply of sheet metal for additional models of locally assembled cars, opening the door to exporting components to regional markets in cooperation with parent companies, developing lighter materials to improve fuel efficiency, and preparing to supply the metal components needed for electric vehicles—all were discussed.
