Egypt Car Sales Surge 40% in First 5 Months of 2026
According to the latest report from the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC), Egypt's automotive market experienced a significant upswing in the first five months of 2026, with total sales rising by 40% compared to the same period last year. The market recorded 81,371 vehicles sold, up from 58,080 units during the corresponding period in 2025, signaling a clear recovery in demand across all vehicle segments.
Passenger Car Sales Lead the Recovery
The private passenger car segment, known locally as 'El Malaki', posted a 37% increase in sales during the January-to-May period of 2026, reaching 61,895 units compared to 45,075 vehicles sold in the same timeframe of the previous year. This robust performance underscores improved consumer confidence in the domestic market, supported by the availability of diverse models that cater to various buyer segments.
Buses and Trucks See Double-Digit Growth
The commercial vehicle sector witnessed exceptional growth, with bus sales across all categories surging by 91.6% to reach 6,576 units, up from just 3,433 vehicles in the first five months of 2025. Truck sales also rose sharply by 34.8%, totaling 12,900 units compared to 9,572 vehicles during the same comparison period. This accelerated growth reflects increased economic activity and commercial transport demand across the country.
This positive performance strengthens expectations for continued momentum in the Egyptian automotive market during the coming months, particularly as financing options remain available and the variety of brands offered to local consumers continues to expand.
