Egypt Car Sales Surge 40% in First Half of 2026
The numbers are striking. A fresh report from Fox 2 Move, a well-known global automotive market data agency, shows Egyptian car sales jumped over 40% in the first half of 2026, covering passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and buses. The report states that total vehicle sales reached 102,118 units during this period.
Behind the Sales Surge
The report attributes the strong growth to Egypt's GDP expansion to 4.4%, up from 2.4% last year. Inflation has also eased, which helped boost consumer confidence and purchasing power. Meanwhile, foreign currency reserves grew steadily over recent months, reflecting a more stable macroeconomic environment.
Top-Selling Brands
Japanese automaker Nissan led the Egyptian market with a 51% sales increase and a 15% market share. Chevrolet followed in second place with roughly 12% market share and growth exceeding 20%. Chinese brand Chery claimed third with a 10% share and 25% growth. MG accounted for 9% of sales, while Hyundai captured 8%.
Best-Selling Models
Among individual models, the Nissan Sunny topped the passenger car segment with a 12% share and 48% sales growth. The Chevrolet T-Series, known locally as El Dabbaba, ranked second with 9% and a 30% increase. The Hyundai Elantra rounded out the top three with a 4% market share.
These figures indicate a reinvigorated automotive sector, fueled by improving economic fundamentals, which could continue to drive momentum in the second half of the year.
