The numbers speak for themselves. A report by the American research agency Focus2Move (F2M), which specializes in global automotive market studies, revealed that car sales in Egypt across all segments — passenger cars, trucks, and buses — surged by 40.5% during the first half of 2026. The total reached 102,118 vehicles, a figure reflecting a tangible shift in the local market's performance after years of stagnation and weakened purchasing power.

What's Driving the Growth?

This improvement didn't happen in a vacuum. The report attributed the sales growth to the recovery of the Egyptian economy during the fiscal year 2024/2025, with the GDP growth rate climbing to 4.4% compared to just 2.4% in the previous fiscal year. Lower inflation rates and a rising foreign reserve were decisive factors in restoring consumer confidence, directly boosting registration and delivery numbers across dealers and distributors.

Brand Ranking: Who Leads the Pack?

Surprised by the top name? Japanese giant Nissan topped the market with a remarkable growth rate of 50.7% and a 14.9% market share, a standout performance that brings it firmly back into the spotlight.

American Chevrolet secured second place with 20.5% growth and an estimated 11.7% market share, while Chinese Chery took third with 24.6% growth, capturing 9.9% of the market. MG followed in fourth place with a 9.1% share and 32.2% growth, whereas South Korea's Hyundai slipped to fifth with a 7.8% share despite posting 8.2% annual growth. The ranking clearly shows a shifting preference map among Egyptian buyers, with Chinese brands rapidly closing in on traditional favorites.

Best-Selling Models in Egypt

At the model level, the Nissan Sunny maintained its crown as the best-selling car, with sales jumping 48.3% to secure an 11.7% market share. The runner-up spot went to the Chevrolet T-Series with a 9.1% share and 30% growth, while the Hyundai Elantra came in third with a 4% share after a 5.1% increase in sales. The pattern is unmistakable — economical compact sedans are capturing the attention of a broad segment of buyers seeking value for money.

The EV Surge

But what does the future hold? Egypt's electric vehicle market witnessed a remarkable surge, with sales in the segment skyrocketing by an enormous 247.4% year-on-year, despite its market share still hovering below 0.1% of the total. New entrants like BYD, Dipall, Xpeng. Zeekr have joined the competition, with Citroen leading the pack with a 32.9% market share and 73.7% growth.

Despite its rapid acceleration, the segment's expansion faces real hurdles, most notably the weak infrastructure needed for charging electric vehicles — a factor that continues to curb demand growth even as some consumers show enthusiasm for the new experience. Dipall ranked second with a 31.7% share, while IM Motors landed in third, painting a fresh picture of Egypt's automotive landscape in the coming period.
