Expert: Egypt on the Path to a New Automotive Manufacturing Era — New Tire and Battery Plants Coming Soon
The shift is clear. Egypt's automotive industry is moving decisively toward a "Made in Egypt" era, backed by expanding government incentives, supportive laws, and programs for investors, alongside serious efforts to deepen manufacturing and localize the supplier base that forms the backbone of any real automotive sector.
Unprecedented Government Support
Journalist and media figure Hisham El-Zini believes the state is entering a new era for car manufacturing, noting that the scale of support directed at the sector — whether through billions of pounds or new laws, incentives, and programs — makes the future of "Made in Egypt" remarkably bright. The numbers being poured into this file are far from marginal.
An Integrated Localization Plan
El-Zini, speaking on his radio show "Arabity", revealed that a comprehensive plan is in place to boost car manufacturing in Egypt. He explained that anyone following the Industry Ministry's moves, the minister's multiple meetings with investors and manufacturers, and his factory tours can gauge the sheer volume of work being done to support the sector and achieve a qualitative leap in local manufacturing.
These efforts raise hopes of reaching a fully Egyptian car with 100% local content in the coming period, especially with the expansion of supplier localization and increased investment across various vehicle components. The ambition is substantial, and the outlined plans appear executable on the ground.
Egypt Ranks Third in Africa
The show host also noted that Egypt currently holds third place in Africa for car manufacturing, behind Morocco and South Africa. He expressed optimism about Egypt's ability to improve its ranking in the near future, in line with plans to deepen the industry and localize components. Competition is fierce, but the available potential allows for a significant leap forward.
New Plants on the Horizon
El-Zini confirmed that the coming period will see new plants in the automotive supplier industry enter service, including factories for tire production and projects for battery manufacturing. These investments represent important steps toward building an integrated industrial base for cars in Egypt, creating a foundation strong enough to compete regionally and globally.
