Egypt's Automotive Imports Hit $422.5M in January While Exports Reach $6M
Egypt's automotive sector recorded $422.5 million in vehicle and component imports during January, according to an official report from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. Meanwhile, the country's vehicle exports totaled $6 million during the same period.
The report covered both fully assembled vehicles and automotive components used in local manufacturing, highlighting the diverse structure of Egypt's automotive import landscape.
Import Breakdown by Vehicle Category
Passenger cars dominated Egypt's automotive imports with $321 million, followed by automotive production components at $97.6 million. Goods transport vehicles accounted for $29.3 million, while public transport vehicles represented $4.2 million of the total import value.
Egypt's Vehicle Export Performance
On the export side, Egyptian-made or locally assembled vehicles generated $6 million in overseas sales during January. Buses represented the largest share of exports, followed by passenger cars shipped to diverse markets across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Top Destination Markets for Egyptian Vehicles
The Netherlands led Egypt's automotive export destinations with $1.99 million worth of imports, consisting of 5 buses. Saudi Arabia ranked second at $1.66 million for 11 buses and 3 passenger cars. Cameroon followed with $913,000 for 5 buses, while the UAE imported 4 buses valued at $819,000.
Additional markets included Ivory Coast ($418,000 for 2 buses), Libya ($203,000 for one bus), Serbia (approximately $7,000 for 3 passenger cars), and Kuwait, which imported a single passenger car unit.
