Egypt’s commercial vehicle sector maintained positive momentum during May 2026, recording fresh growth despite the broader decline across the country's vehicle market.

A total of 2,387 commercial vehicles were insured and licensed during May, representing a 6.32% increase compared with the previous month. The growth came despite a 10.7% decline in overall new vehicle market absorption.

The performance highlights continued activity across commercial, service, and logistics sectors, alongside rising reliance on light and medium-duty transport vehicles for distribution, freight operations, and e-commerce services.

2027 Models Lead New Registrations

Model year 2027 vehicles topped commercial vehicle registrations with 1,373 units, followed by 875 units from the 2026 model year. Meanwhile, 2025 models accounted for just 165 vehicles. The figures indicate a growing trend among businesses and operators to modernize fleets with newer and more efficient models.

Chevrolet Dominates the Commercial Vehicle Market

Chevrolet maintained a commanding lead in the commercial vehicle segment after registering 1,582 vehicles, significantly ahead of its closest competitors and reinforcing its long-standing dominance in this category within the Egyptian market.

Toyota ranked second with 140 vehicles, followed by Mitsubishi with 105 units. Suzuki secured fourth place with 55 vehicles, while Nissan completed the top five with 46 vehicles.

Industry observers attribute the continued growth of the commercial vehicle sector to several factors, including expanding domestic trade activity, increasing demand for freight and delivery services, and the need for companies to renew operational fleets. These factors have helped the segment remain less affected by the slowdown impacting the passenger car market.

Passenger Cars and Motorcycles Decline

In contrast, passenger car registrations fell by 9.01% during May to 20,908 vehicles, while motorcycle registrations dropped 12.83% to 30,623 units.

Total new vehicles insured and licensed during May reached 56,141 units. Nissan continued to lead the ranking of the most licensed automotive brands, while electric vehicle registrations also maintained steady growth within the Egyptian market.
