Data released by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) has revealed a remarkable surge in car sales in the Egyptian market during the first five months of 2026. According to the latest AMIC report, total sales across all segments—passenger cars, buses, and commercial trucks—reached 81,371 vehicles, recording a year-on-year increase of 40.10% compared to the same period last year.

Passenger Cars Lead Market Growth

The passenger car segment continued to drive market expansion, achieving a 37% increase in sales, with 61,895 units sold compared to 45,075 vehicles during the same period in 2025. This strong performance reflects sustained high demand for passenger cars in Egypt. In the commercial truck segment, sales jumped by 34.8% year-on-year, with 12,900 vehicles registered during the first five months of 2026, up from 9,572 trucks in the prior year.

Bus Segment Records Highest Growth in 2026

The bus segment recorded the highest growth in the market during the reviewed period, with sales reaching 6,576 vehicles, an increase of 3,143 units compared to the previous year. This makes it the fastest-growing sector in the Egyptian automotive market so far this year.

Positive Forecasts from U.S. Agency for Egypt's Auto Market

In a related context, a report by the U.S.-based Focus2Move agency—specialized in global automotive market research—revealed an upward trajectory for the Egyptian car market throughout 2026. The report highlighted that sales rose by 26.9% in January and 35.5% in February, before closing the first quarter with 13.5% growth, totaling 40,963 vehicles. This performance underscores strong domestic demand and the market's ability to overcome challenges.

The U.S. agency added that the positive performance of the Egyptian car market aligns with government forecasts of 5.4% economic growth during the 2026/2027 fiscal year, supported by expanded investments, the private sector's role, and improved performance in several key economic sectors. According to the report, government support for local manufacturing and incentives for the automotive industry are expected to sustain market growth in the coming years, despite ongoing challenges related to the global economy and regulatory policies.
