Al-Ahram Transport Vehicles Exhibition 2026: After-Sales Services and Legalizing Informal Workshops Shape the Future of Egypt's Auto Industry
The Al-Ahram Transport Vehicles Exhibition 2026 turned its three-day run from June 18 to 20 into a comprehensive dialogue platform that outlined the future of Egypt's automotive industry. The discussions brought together government officials, investors, and industry experts to address the most pressing issues affecting the sector, including after-sales services, attracting investments, local manufacturing, and legalizing informal workshops and factories known as 'Beer al-Salam'.
After-Sales Services: The New Competitive Benchmark
Participants emphasized that competition in the automotive market is no longer measured solely by vehicle quality or price, but by a company's ability to provide an integrated system encompassing modern service centers, genuine spare parts, and qualified technical staff. This system ensures vehicle uptime and reduces operating costs for customers, making it a decisive factor in purchasing decisions.
In this context, Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, stated that after-sales services have become an integral part of the state's strategy to develop the automotive industry. He noted that the ministry is reviewing dealers' financial capabilities to ensure they can expand their after-sales service networks, which improves service quality and enhances customer confidence in the Egyptian market.
Legalizing Informal Workshops: Integration, Not Closure
The minister revealed the state's approach to dealing with informal workshops and factories, clarifying that the goal is not to shut them down, but to legalize their status and integrate them into the formal economy. This vision requires these workshops to apply standard specifications and quality standards, which boosts the efficiency of local manufacturing and protects consumer rights. The ultimate aim is to transform these workshops into productive entities capable of contributing to the sector's sustainable growth.
Industry experts participating in the exhibition agreed that the Egyptian market is witnessing a shift in customer priorities, with the quality of after-sales services, the availability of spare parts, and maintenance efficiency becoming key purchase decision criteria. This shift has forced some companies to make significant investments in developing their after-sales service networks to meet growing demand.
Expansion Plans and Local Content Increase
The exhibition revealed companies' expansion plans in the Egyptian market, with a focus on after-sales services and spare parts availability. Discussions confirmed that the state and automakers aim to increase the local content ratio and expand feeder industries in the coming period. This foundational pillar is designed to reduce production costs, decrease reliance on imports, and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products in foreign markets.
The Al-Ahram Transport Vehicles Exhibition 2026 also highlighted a notable shift in market demand, with consumers increasingly favoring vehicles that offer lower operating costs and reliable after-sales services. This trend reinforces the importance of investing in service infrastructure and technical training, creating a more stable and attractive environment for local and foreign investments in Egypt's automotive manufacturing sector.
