8 Car Components at Risk from Summer Heat Before Holiday Travel
With the start of the summer holiday season and thousands of families preparing to head to coastal destinations, many drivers are focused on packing and choosing their vacation spot. However, an important fact is often overlooked: rising temperatures do not only affect passenger comfort, but also place significant stress on the vehicle itself, potentially leading to unexpected breakdowns or high repair costs if not addressed early.
Automotive experts confirm that summer is one of the harshest periods for many vehicle components, especially during long trips and hours of continuous driving on highways.
Battery
Contrary to the common belief that winter is the main enemy of car batteries, high temperatures can have an even greater impact on battery life. Extreme heat accelerates the evaporation of internal fluids and affects the chemical reactions responsible for energy production, which may lead to weak starting performance or sudden vehicle shutdown, especially if the battery is old or near the end of its service life.
Tires
Tires are exposed to additional stress during summer due to rising asphalt temperatures and increased internal air pressure. During long-distance high-speed travel, the risk of wear or damage increases. It is therefore recommended to check tire pressure before traveling and ensure the spare tire is in good condition.
Coolant
The cooling system plays a crucial role in protecting the engine from overheating. Any drop in coolant level or even a minor leak can lead to a dangerous rise in engine temperature, potentially resulting in costly mechanical failures.
Air Conditioning System
During summer months, drivers rely heavily on the car's air conditioning system, increasing pressure on its components. A full inspection is recommended to ensure cooling efficiency and refrigerant gas levels before traveling, especially on long journeys.
Windshield Wipers
Continuous exposure to direct sunlight can cause the rubber material of windshield wipers to dry out and crack, reducing their cleaning efficiency and affecting visibility when needed.
Exterior Paint
Ultraviolet rays and high temperatures affect the vehicle's exterior paint layer, ...
