Opel Frontera Officially Launches in Egypt as Brand's First 7-Seater
Mansour Automotive Group, the exclusive distributor of Opel in Egypt, has officially launched the new Opel Frontera in the local market. The crossover utility vehicle joins the German brand's lineup as the first Opel model in Egypt to offer seven seats, targeting families seeking additional passenger capacity without stepping up to a full-size SUV.
Pricing and Trim Level Details
The new Opel Frontera arrives in a single trim level, priced at EGP 1,190,000. The pricing strategy positions the Frontera against mid-size SUV rivals, with the seven-seat configuration serving as the key differentiator in a segment where most competitors offer five seats as standard.
One trim option might catch some buyers off guard. Opel opted for a simplified approach, avoiding multiple equipment tiers that competitors commonly use. That decision could either simplify the purchase process or limit flexibility for buyers who want different combinations of features.
Official Statements from Opel Egypt Management
Medhat Awad, Head of the Opel Brand Division, confirmed that launching the Frontera represents a significant addition to Opel's vehicle lineup in Egypt. He emphasized that the car delivers a practical concept within the SUV class, particularly as the first seven-seat Opel model in the local market. Awad also highlighted that the vehicle reflects Opel's vision of offering models that combine modern design, technology, and practical value.
Awad's remarks signal a broader strategy for the brand. The company continues strengthening its footprint in Egypt through products that match customer demands and adapt to market developments, as the segment head explained in the official announcement made during the launch event in Cairo.
Engine Specifications and Performance
Powering the Opel Frontera is a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 130 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. Those figures route through a six-speed automatic gearbox, pushing the crossover to a top speed of 190 km/h while returning a claimed average fuel consumption of 6.1 liters per 100 km. The fuel tank holds 44 liters, giving the vehicle a reasonable driving range for both city commutes and highway journeys.
Does 130 horsepower sound modest for a seven-seater? Under normal driving conditions, the turbocharger does most of the heavy lifting at low engine speeds, making the Frontera feel more responsive than the power figure might suggest. The automatic transmission prioritizes smooth shifting over aggressive acceleration, aligning with the vehicle's family-oriented positioning.
Dimensions and Interior Space
The Frontera measures 4,385 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width. 1,627 mm in height, riding on a 2,670 mm wheelbase. Those figures translate into a compact footprint that still accommodates three rows of seats without compromising passenger comfort. Opel engineers focused on maximizing interior space efficiency to ensure that the third row remains usable for adults on shorter trips rather than being reserved exclusively for children.
Entering the crowded Egyptian SUV market with an entirely new nameplate represents a bold move. The Opel Frontera must convince buyers that its seven-seat layout and pragmatic design philosophy justify the asking price. Whether that message lands with Egyptian families will become clear as dealer showrooms begin receiving customer deliveries over the coming months.
