Mandriving is set to reveal the all-new BYD Atto 2 in Egypt on September 18. The cheapest BYD currently available is the Dolphin Surf electric hatchback at EGP 949,900. It features a 38.88 kWh battery, 75 hp motor, and 300 km range. The car targets a broad segment of buyers seeking an affordable electric alternative.
Mandriving, the exclusive local distributor for BYD in Egypt, is preparing to unveil the all-new Atto 2 for the first time in the Egyptian market tomorrow, Friday, September 18. Ahead of that reveal, the spotlight falls on the most affordable model in the brand's current lineup: the BYD Dolphin Surf, an electric hatchback priced at EGP 949,900.
BYD Dolphin Surf: The Cheapest Electric Vehicle in the Lineup
The number is striking. BYD Dolphin Surf delivers a complete electric package for under one million pounds, a rarity in Egypt's EV market where Chinese and European brands are locked in an increasingly fierce battle for buyers. The car targets a broad segment of motorists looking for an economical and environmentally friendly alternative, especially as traditional fuel prices continue to climb.
Technical Specs: 38.88 kWh Battery and 300 km Range
The BYD Dolphin Surf relies on a fully electric powertrain, featuring a 38.88 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a 75-horsepower electric motor. The car supports home charging via Type 2 AC, along with CCS fast charging. That can replenish the battery in about 30 minutes. It can cover up to 300 kilometers under normal driving conditions, while range drops to around 220 kilometers on highways in cold weather, with a top speed of 130 km/h.
Practical Features: Touchscreen and CarPlay Support
Inside, the Dolphin Surf offers five seats, a central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, automatic air conditioning, and smart key with NFC technology. Safety equipment includes tire pressure monitoring, ABS, EBD, and multiple airbags.
Dimensions: A Compact City Car
In terms of size, the BYD Dolphin Surf measures approximately 3,780 meters in length, 1,540 meters in width. 1,715 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,500 meters. It belongs to the compact electric car segment, making it well-suited for navigating congested cities, with easy parking and maneuverability on narrow streets. These dimensions give it a clear advantage in the Egyptian market, where tight roads and heavy traffic are common in major cities.
The all-new Atto 2 that Mandriving will reveal tomorrow could change the game in Egypt's electric vehicle sector. When it officially reaches showrooms, it will join the Dolphin Surf in the BYD lineup in the local market, giving Egyptian buyers broader choices in the EV segment. The coming developments could redraw the competition map among Chinese brands in Egypt.
