Mercedes-Benz continues to strengthen its presence in the luxury electric vehicle market, following specialized reports revealing new updates for the EQS model that grant it an electric driving range of up to 925 kilometers under the WLTP standard. This marks a strong return to the race for the longest range among electric vehicles. This figure represents a significant leap in the luxury EV segment, especially since range anxiety remains one of the most critical factors influencing electric car purchase decisions, despite major advancements in battery technology and fast charging.

EQS 450+ Leads the Pack

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ version tops the list with a driving range of approximately 925 kilometers on a single charge, a figure that places it among the strongest electric vehicles in terms of long-distance capability without frequent charging stops. This version targets customers seeking a luxury electric vehicle capable of combining comfort, silence, technology, and long range suitable for daily commutes and intercity travel.

Upgraded Platform and 800-Volt System

The updated Mercedes EQS relies on a significant technical upgrade: transitioning to an 800-volt electrical architecture, replacing the traditional 400-volt system used in some previous versions. This development helps improve charging efficiency and reduce downtime at fast-charging stations, a key point of competition among modern electric vehicles.

Fast Charging up to 350 kW

The updated Mercedes EQS supports fast charging capabilities of up to 350 kW when using a compatible station, allowing for a significant recovery of driving range in a short time. Reports indicate that approximately 320 kilometers of range can be added in just 10 minutes of charging, making the car more suitable for long trips and highway driving.

Larger Battery and Higher Efficiency

The EQS features an improved battery with a usable capacity of up to approximately 122 kWh in some versions, along with enhancements in energy density and power consumption management. Achieving this long range does not rely solely on battery size but on a combination of factors including aerodynamic design, electric motor efficiency, software, and energy recuperation systems during driving.

Two-Speed Transmission

Among the most notable technical improvements in the updated version is the use of a two-speed transmission for the rear axle, a solution aimed at combining strong acceleration at launch with high efficiency at constant speeds. These updates confirm that Mercedes-Benz is striving to deliver an electric vehicle that not only offers luxury but also competes strongly in driving range and daily usability experience.
