US Dollar Drops Against Egyptian Pound on Sunday, June 28 – Impact on Car Prices
Egyptian banks witnessed a noticeable decline in the US dollar exchange rate against the Egyptian pound on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with the greenback falling by about 10 piastres in both buying and selling transactions as banks resumed operations after the weekend. This decline comes at a time when importers and market participants are closely monitoring currency movements, particularly given the strong link between exchange rates and vital sectors such as automobiles and imported goods.
Dollar Exchange Rates at Major Egyptian Banks Today
The dollar was quoted at EGP 49.36 for buying and EGP 49.46 for selling at the National Bank of Egypt, while Banque Misr recorded rates of EGP 49.38 for buying and EGP 49.48 for selling. At Bank of Alexandria, the dollar stood at EGP 49.35 for buying and EGP 49.45 for selling. The Commercial International Bank (CIB) posted the lowest rates among the listed banks at EGP 49.30 for buying and EGP 49.40 for selling. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank recorded the highest levels at EGP 49.55 for buying and EGP 49.65 for selling.
How the Dollar Decline Affects Egypt's Auto Market
The automotive sector is among the most sensitive to exchange rate fluctuations, as the local market relies heavily on importing vehicles and components. A weaker dollar could positively impact prices of imported cars, especially after months of inflationary pressure. Dealers and importers are now watching closely to see if the decline continues, which would allow them to adjust pricing lists in line with lower shipping, insurance, and customs costs tied to foreign currency.
Analysts believe that any further stabilization or drop in the dollar could improve consumer purchasing power, particularly with upcoming car discount seasons and increased market supply. However, currency market outlook remains tied to both domestic and external factors, including the Central Bank of Egypt's monetary policy and hard currency inflows from tourism and exports.
The key question remains whether this decline will be sustained in the coming days and translate into tangible price reductions at showrooms and dealerships. Consumers are advised to track daily exchange rate updates before making major purchase decisions, especially amid current volatility that could affect the value of large transactions such as buying a new or used car.
