Unified Hotline and Rescue Vehicles to Assist You If Your Car Breaks Down on Summer Road Trips
With the onset of summer and a significant increase in travel to coastal cities, Egypt's General Traffic Directorate has raised its state of readiness on highways, desert roads, and coastal routes. The aim is to provide immediate support to drivers facing unexpected breakdowns that could disrupt their journeys. Services include deploying traffic rescue vehicles along key axes, alongside a unified hotline to receive breakdown and hazard reports, ensuring a swift response to the stranded vehicle's location.
Unified Traffic Rescue Hotline
The General Traffic Directorate has dedicated the number 01221110000 to receive distress calls from drivers encountering breakdowns or emergencies on the road. The hotline accepts reports of various malfunctions, requiring the caller to specify the vehicle's location and the nature of the problem. This information is used to dispatch the nearest rescue vehicle or direct specialized services to the scene. Operations rooms are staffed around the clock to monitor traffic conditions and coordinate response teams.
Services Provided by Rescue Vehicles
Traffic rescue vehicles are equipped to handle common issues faced by travelers, primarily including tire damage or blowouts, fuel depletion, and minor mechanical faults that can be repaired on-site. These units carry a range of tools and equipment necessary for rapid intervention. In cases where on-road repair is not feasible, assistance is available to tow the vehicle to the nearest service center or a safe location for more extensive repairs.
Deployment Points on Roads Leading to Summer Resorts
The Traffic Directorate has positioned rescue vehicles along several routes that experience high traffic density during the holiday season. These include the Ring Road, the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, the Wadi El Natrun–El Alamein Road, and the Kilo 21–Matrouh Road. Coverage also extends to the Katameya–Ain Sokhna Road, the Cairo–Suez Desert Road, the Cairo–Ismailia Desert Road, and the Fayoum Desert Road, ensuring a wide net over major axes leading to coastal cities and tourist destinations.
Role of Operations Rooms in Reducing Wait Times
Traffic operations rooms continuously monitor road conditions and receive reports concerning breakdowns or hazards that threaten driver safety. They direct traffic services to locations requiring intervention. This system helps reduce waiting times for stranded drivers and clears broken-down vehicles from positions that could obstruct traffic flow or cause accidents, particularly on highways experiencing heavy congestion during the summer season.
