Over 900 Cars Unloaded at Port Said East and West Ports in Two Days
Port Said East and West ports received two roll-on/roll-off car carriers within two days, unloading more than 900 cars. The LEO LEADER discharged 235 transit cars from Jordan, while the AH SHIN unloaded 671 cars under Egypt's expatriates' car import initiative. These figures reflect the growing operational activity of Egyptian ports in car trade.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone announced that Port Said East and West ports received two roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) car carriers within just 48 hours. The total cars unloaded surpassed 900 units. The movement came as part of transit operations and Egypt's expatriates' car import initiative.
Port Said East Receives the LEO LEADER Vessel
The LEO LEADER docked at Port Said East arriving from Aqaba Port in Jordan, with 235 transit cars discharged at the Suez Canal Company for Car Handling (SCAT) terminal. Nissan is among the brands expected in this shipment. This marks the vessel's sixth visit to Egypt since it began operations, reflecting the terminal's growing activity in car handling and transit services.
The LEO LEADER measures 200 meters in length, 32 meters in width, with a draft of 7.4 meters. The ship's total deadweight reaches 57,566 tons. These numbers highlight the logistical scale that Egyptian ports currently accommodate.
Port Said West Discharges 671 Cars for Egyptians Abroad
Meanwhile, Port Said West received the AH SHIN vessel arriving from Koper Port in Slovenia. A total of 671 cars were unloaded under the Egyptian government's initiative for importing cars for Egyptians abroad. Hyundai and Toyota are among the most sought-after brands in this initiative. The ship flies the Panama flag.
The AH SHIN is 194 meters long and 32.2 meters wide, with a draft of 8 meters and a total deadweight of 57,440 tons. The repeated arrival of Ro-Ro vessels confirms the economic zone's growing role in regional car trade.
Car Traffic at Egyptian Ports Is Booming
Two vessels of this size arriving within just two days sends a strong signal about the revival of car handling traffic at Egyptian ports. Nissan prices and Hyundai prices in the local market may see movement in the coming period due to increased supply. Port Said is cementing its position as a main gateway for car trade in the region.
Both the LEO LEADER and AH SHIN operate on the Ro-Ro system, which allows cars to be driven directly onto the docks without the need for heavy lifting equipment. This system significantly cuts turnaround time. Operational efficiency is exactly what major shipping lines look for when selecting ports.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone continues to attract new shipping routes through infrastructure development. The volume of cars unloaded in two days exceeds what some ports used to receive in a full month years ago. The numbers speak for themselves.
