Five billion Egyptian pounds. That's the scale of investment pouring into the Egyptian market as Omoda and Jaecoo prepare for their official launch within weeks. The move, backed by the Ez El Arab Swedy Group, signals a major reshuffling in the country's Chinese car segment. The stakes are high, and the plans go far beyond typical distribution deals.

Strategic Partnership Aims to Turn Egypt into a Manufacturing and Export Hub

The agreement signed in August 2026 with parent company Chery carries ambitions that stretch well beyond introducing new models. The blueprint includes gradually increasing local component ratios, developing a domestic supply chain. Transferring technology to Egyptian engineers. There's a larger vision at play: positioning Egypt as a regional export base for both brands.

SUV models will lead the charge. The initial lineup features the Omoda C5 and C7, alongside the Jaecoo J5 and J7 in both petrol and hybrid variants, topped by the flagship Jaecoo J8. All arrive with contemporary styling and tech-loaded cabins aimed squarely at the segment that dominates Egyptian roads.

Omoda C5 Packs Global Specs into a Compact Frame

The smallest Omoda arrives as a compact SUV targeting a broad customer base. Its sporty, streamlined exterior houses a dual-screen cockpit with a suite of driver assistance systems that vary by trim and market. Power comes from a 1500cc turbo engine producing 156 horsepower, mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission — figures that translate into balanced performance and efficient fuel consumption globally.

Dimensions grow with the Omoda C7. That brings a more spacious cabin and a richer equipment list. The base powertrain is a 1600cc turbo engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the plug-in hybrid C7 SHS variant combines a 1500cc engine with an electric unit. The Super Hybrid system from Chery delivers a combined range exceeding 1,200 kilometers, a number that makes it a practical choice for long-distance driving across Egypt.

A 15.6-inch central screen that can slide from the middle toward the front passenger side... such details reveal the design philosophy behind the brand's debut models. Technology here isn't a luxury add-on; it's a core weapon in the fight for local customers hungry for something new.

The arrival of these two brands adds another chapter to Egypt's fiercely competitive SUV arena. Yet the industrial dimension matters more — local assembly promises more competitive pricing in the future, faster after-sales service, and another success story for the country's growing automotive industry.
