The Nissan Sunny topped the list of the most registered private cars in the Egyptian market during June, while the Chevrolet Optra came in second place, according to data from the Egyptian Motor Insurance Pool for compulsory vehicle insurance.

Registration Figures Reflect Growing Demand

Data from the Egyptian Pool revealed that a total of 1,748 Nissan Sunny units received compulsory insurance policies and were registered nationwide during June, compared to 731 units for the Chevrolet Optra over the same period. These figures reflect strong demand for the family sedan segment in the Egyptian market, where families prioritize reliability and affordable pricing.

Engine and Performance: Sunny vs Optra

The locally assembled Chevrolet Optra sedan relies on a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 98 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed CVT automatic transmission, providing smooth driving and seamless power delivery. In contrast, the family-oriented locally assembled Nissan Sunny features a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine generating 108 horsepower, connected to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The power advantage gives the Sunny a slight edge in acceleration, while the Optra excels with a more advanced CVT gearbox.

Dimensions and Interior Space

The Chevrolet Optra measures 4,490 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm, a ground clearance of 125 mm at maximum load, and a trunk volume ranging from 475 to 910 liters. The Nissan Sunny, meanwhile, has a length of 4,425 mm, a width of 1,695 mm, a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, and a rear storage capacity of 490 liters, riding on 15-inch sport wheels. The Sunny features a longer wheelbase, offering more rear legroom, while the Optra stands out with its expandable trunk capacity.

Safety Features and Equipment

The Chevrolet Optra is equipped with a range of advanced safety features to ensure passenger protection, including front airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD). These systems enhance stability during sudden braking and reduce the risk of skidding. The Nissan Sunny, on the other hand, relies on a robust body structure with front and rear crumple zones, along with ABS and EBD in most trims, delivering an acceptable level of safety for the economy sedan segment.

The choice between these two cars depends on buyer priorities: if you are looking for more interior space thanks to the longer wheelbase and better fuel economy, the Nissan Sunny may be a suitable option. If you prefer a larger trunk and an 8-speed CVT transmission with the reputation of the Chevrolet brand in Egypt, the Optra is worth considering. Both cars represent good value in the family sedan segment, with the Sunny's clear registration lead reflecting strong buyer confidence.
