Urgent Warning from Health Ministry: Never Leave Your Child in a Parked Car
Temperatures are soaring. The danger is far greater than most realize. Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population has issued a sweeping warning to all car owners: never leave children inside parked vehicles, whether under direct sunlight or even in shaded areas. The warning is blunt — not even for a single minute inside a closed car.
Why a Closed Car Becomes a Death Trap
The ministry explained that the extreme heat currently hitting Egypt causes an even sharper temperature spike inside sealed vehicles. This exposes children to severe heat stress that can escalate rapidly. In documented cases, death occurred within minutes of exposure to such extreme cabin temperatures — a silent killer that strikes without warning.
Children are especially vulnerable. Their small bodies can't regulate temperature like adults. The health authority stated that this awareness campaign is conducted in coordination with the World Health Organization and its local office in Egypt, emphasizing that Egyptian children need extra protection during this brutal heatwave.
A Tragedy That Could Have Been Avoided
This warning isn't abstract. It follows a heartbreaking incident where a father left his young child inside the car and simply forgot. The child remained trapped for hours, suffered fatal heat stress, and died. This scenario repeats every summer in Egypt and across the Arab world.
The solution is simple. Never leave the child behind. Not in the shade. Not with the AC running. Not for a few seconds. A parked car turns into an oven in minutes — internal temperatures can reach nearly double the outside reading. The ministry also urged parents to keep children out of direct sunlight entirely, staying in shaded areas or indoors to prevent heatstroke and heat exhaustion.
