Giza Unveils New Engineering Plan to End Traffic Gridlock on King Faisal Street
Giza Governor Dr. Ahmed El-Ansary announced an engineering and traffic plan to improve flow on King Faisal Street. The traffic report identified key choke points at El-Eshreen, El-Tawabek, and Mariouteya. Solutions include redesigning U-turns, organizing parking, and preventing random encroachments. Integrated public transport stops will also be activated to regulate microbus movement.
Giza Governor Dr. Ahmed El-Ansary has announced a comprehensive package of engineering and traffic solutions aimed at breaking up congestion and improving traffic flow on King Faisal Street, one of the governorate's most vital arteries. The plan is based on a detailed traffic report prepared in cooperation with the Giza Traffic Department. The goal is clear: raise the street's efficiency.
Key Congestion Hotspots on Faisal Street
The report identified several daily choke points, most notably the El-Eshreen and Hassan Mohamed areas, the El-Tawabek and El-Matbaa intersection, and the Mariouteya and Faisal surface road zones. These areas see a complex mix of traffic volumes, commercial activity, random encroachments, and disorganized parking that severely reduces the road's capacity. The problem is layered.
Proposed solutions include redesigning some U-turns and converting them into protected turns equipped with deceleration and acceleration lanes. That will help organize vehicle movement and reduce traffic conflicts. Parking will also be organized longitudinally in permitted areas. Random parking that drains road capacity will be banned. Coordination with vital utilities is essential.
Precise Coordination with Infrastructure
The governor stressed the need to align utility chamber levels — including sewage manholes, telecom chambers, and utility valves — with the asphalt layer level, while implementing asphalt patches on both sides and restoring any affected section to its original state. These precise engineering details are critical to avoid conflicts between roadworks and existing utility networks. Execution demands tight coordination.
For public transport, integrated stops dedicated to public transport vehicles will be activated in the proposed areas, preventing random stopping by microbus vehicles and achieving traffic discipline. In parallel, efforts will be intensified to address encroachments and violations that impede traffic on the corridor. Mercedes, Toyota, and Hyundai are among the brands Giza residents rely on daily, and any improvement on Faisal will directly benefit these car owners. Nissan is also strongly present on the governorate's roads.
King Faisal Street serves as a main artery for densely populated districts like Talbia, Omraniya. Haram, used daily by thousands of vehicles across various segments, including Kia and Chevrolet. Improving flow there goes beyond cutting trip times — it reduces fuel consumption and wear from repeated stopping. The new plan awaits actual implementation on the ground.
