Late 2026 Rebound: Egypt's Used Car Sales Jump 20% with Demand Focused Below EGP 600K
Egypt's used car market rebounded by 20% in the final quarter of 2026, yet sales remained focused on models priced below EGP 600,000. Dealer Fadel Mahmoud noted the market had suffered months of stagnation, with demand mainly for cars under EGP 400,000–500,000. Key challenges include the lack of a clear valuation reference and inflated pricing, which slow deal closures. Stabilizing activity requires accurate technical evaluation and fair pricing based on condition, year, and specs.
Egypt's used car market regained some momentum in the final quarter of 2026, with sales activity rising by 20%. Yet demand remains concentrated almost entirely on models priced below EGP 600,000.
Used Car Sales Rebound in Q4
Fadel Mahmoud, a car dealer, says the market suffered a prolonged slump in previous months, with limited demand focused mainly on used cars listed under EGP 400,000 and EGP 500,000. The last quarter brought a change. Sales moved by roughly 20%, but remained centered on models priced under EGP 600,000.
Uneven Movement Across Price Brackets
Despite the improvement, sales activity remains uneven across models and price segments. Higher-priced cars struggle to attract buyers, especially as some owners hold firm to prices that don't match demand levels. Mahmoud points to the absence of a clear valuation reference for used cars as a key challenge, with some dealers and sellers relying on personal estimates and inflated prices, even when cars share the same model year, technical condition, and specifications.
This disparity creates price gaps between similar cars and adds to buyer confusion. When some used models approach the price of new cars, consumers are forced to recalculate before making a purchase decision.
Pricing Practices Slow Deal Closures
Unregulated pricing practices negatively affect the speed of closing deals and overall sales movement. Many cars stay listed for long periods without buyers, due to a mismatch between asking prices and the value buyers see as appropriate for the car's condition and capabilities.
Achieving more stable activity requires relying on accurate technical evaluation for each car, setting prices that match its condition, model year, and specifications, and avoiding exaggerated pricing by some dealers and owners.
