Cairo and Giza Roads Experience Heavy Traffic Due to Metro Construction, Flow in 6th October and Sheikh Zayed
Cairo and Giza's main road networks experienced a mixed traffic situation this morning, with relative smoothness and flexibility on the Ring Road and July 26 Corridor, while moving congestion appeared at several key points due to increased loads during the morning peak hours. Traffic services were widely deployed along the axes to ensure citizen safety, facilitate car movement, and guide drivers to alternative routes.
Traffic Flow on Key Cairo Axes
Traffic flow was smooth on the October 6 Bridge (October Bridge) and the Corniche, while moderate congestion was recorded on the Ramses and Ain Shams axes, downtown areas, as well as Nasr City, New Cairo, Shubra, and Al-Mo'assasa districts. On Salah Salem Axis, traffic was relatively orderly except for high density near the Central Agency, Al-Obour Buildings, and close to Al-Azhar Tunnel, prompting traffic police to recommend using Al-Sikka Al-Bayda Axis as an alternative to Salah Salem. Traffic eased later on Al-Uruba Street and the Airport Road, while Shubra and Al-Ter'a Al-Bolaqiya areas saw smooth flow up to Al-Amiria and Al-Waily during the morning period.
Detailed Traffic Situation in Giza Governorate
In Giza Governorate, traffic was stable in Dokki, Agouza, and Mohandessin districts, except for high congestion at Sphinx Square and Mustafa Mahmoud Square. Vehicle movement was organized on axes leading to the 6th of October City, while traffic flow was smooth on Sheikh Zayed and Al-Wahat roads. However, the most notable congestion appeared on the Faisal axis at the Tawabeq area and the intersection of Al-Haram Street with Marioutiya Street, caused by construction works for metro stations underway in Talbiya, El-Eshreen, El-Mesaha, and Safa El-Laban areas.
Traffic services deployed across main axes and squares continue to monitor vehicle movement precisely through surveillance cameras connected to the central traffic operations room. This ensures rapid response to any emergency and alleviates pressure on areas affected by major infrastructure projects, particularly the metro network expansion. Drivers are strongly advised to plan their trips during peak hours carefully, use smart navigation applications to find less congested alternative routes, and anticipate some temporary disruptions during the morning rush due to ongoing construction activities aimed at improving the public transportation network in the long term.
The ongoing metro expansion works, while causing temporary traffic congestion in specific Giza districts, are part of a broader strategic plan to enhance mass transit connectivity across Greater Cairo, ultimately reducing long-term reliance on private vehicles and improving overall traffic efficiency once completed. Motorists are urged to remain patient and follow the instructions of traffic officers deployed at key intersections and affected areas to ensure safe and orderly movement for all road users during this transitional phase.
