Cairo's Attaba and Mousky Development Enters Phase Two: New Lighting and Traffic Reorganization
The Attaba and Mousky district in Cairo is undergoing phase two of its market development project, fully funded by the Ministry of Local Development's budget. Works include utility replacement, sidewalk curb installation to separate pedestrian and vehicle paths, and improved lighting and traffic directions. Facade restoration for buildings has reached 60% completion, with ongoing efforts to upgrade streets and commercial shops. The project aims to enhance the urban environment while preserving the area's historical and commercial identity.
Development work in Cairo's Attaba and Mousky district has reached a critical phase. Phase two of the project targets reorganizing vehicle and pedestrian flow in one of the capital's busiest commercial areas, with a complete overhaul of infrastructure and building facades.
Ministerial Inspection Follows Execution Rates in Attaba
Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, conducted an inspection tour of phase two works at the Attaba market development project. The visit aimed to monitor actual progress on the ground, with all works fully funded from the ministry's budget. The project seeks to improve the urban environment, directly impacting thousands of daily visitors.
Ongoing operations include complete replacement and renewal of utilities within phase two's scope. Dr. Saeed Helmy Abdel Khaleq, Head of Planning and Integrated Local Development Sector, confirmed that completing utility works is a major step toward finishing urban upgrades and improving streets, sidewalks, and commercial shops.
New Curbs and Lighting to Separate Pedestrian and Vehicle Paths
Sidewalk curbs have been installed across the market's internal streets, along with part of the external Bousta Street. These curbs help define movement paths and separate pedestrian zones from vehicle traffic — a vital measure in an area experiencing heavy daily congestion. Concrete bases for canopies and flooring layers have also been completed.
The new lighting systems and reorganized traffic directions form the core of this transformation. The project goes beyond aesthetics, extending to improve safety levels and ease of movement while preserving the commercial and historical character that defines Attaba and Mousky.
60% Completion of Facade Restoration Works
In parallel with street and sidewalk works, restoration and upgrading of building facades — featuring both distinctive and modern architectural styles — continue at a steady pace. Completion rates for these works have reached approximately 60%, reflecting rapid execution. Merchants and residents alike await the final outcome, especially as phase two approaches its conclusion, promising to reshape the entire urban landscape in the heart of Cairo's commercial district.
