Tesla Expands Despite Challenges: Record Profits and Thousands of New Jobs with Ambitious Strategy for 30 Markets
Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, continues to execute its ambitious expansion plans in Europe, heavily relying on its German factory in Grünheide near Berlin. The company is capitalizing on rising global demand for electric cars and increasing operating profits, enabling it to fund these expansions without significant impact from the economic crises affecting global markets. The latest annual report shows that this strategy is beginning to yield results, especially with ambitious plans to significantly boost production in the upcoming fiscal year.
Ambitious Production Plans and New Jobs
The annual report of "Tesla Manufacturing Brandenburg SE" for 2025 revealed expectations of a notable increase in production volume during the 2026 fiscal year compared to the previous year. Tesla aims to raise its weekly output in Grünheide to 7,500 vehicles, equivalent to 375,000 vehicles annually, alongside expanding battery cell production at the same site. To achieve these goals, the company plans to create 3,500 new jobs, supporting the local economy and strengthening Germany's position as a key European hub for EV manufacturing. The factory currently supplies more than 30 global markets with vehicles produced on-site, with plans to enter additional markets in the near future.
Full Value Chain Integration
Tesla is adopting an unprecedented strategy in Europe by integrating the entire value chain at the German factory, starting from battery cell production to final vehicle assembly. The company considers this model "unique" on the continent, as it reduces reliance on external suppliers and achieves significant cost savings. The resumption of government support has accelerated these plans, though factory expansions remained tied to market developments and demand forecasts. However, the company faces major challenges in completing this chain, particularly regarding cell production in Europe, which struggles with cost and efficiency issues compared to the United States and China.
Geopolitical Challenges and Supply Risks
Despite the optimism in Tesla's annual report, the company did not hide the risks that could affect its expansion plans. The report clearly indicates that continued escalation of geopolitical tensions and the resulting negative economic repercussions, such as supply chain disruptions, could negatively impact future expectations. Moreover, completing the battery value chain in Grünheide remains contingent on economic conditions, as cell production in Europe faces significant challenges in terms of costs and efficiency compared to the US and China, which dominate this field.
Financial Results for 2025
Tesla's German subsidiary ended the 2025 fiscal year with an annual surplus of €77.1 million, an increase of nearly €20 million compared to 2024, despite difficult market conditions. However, revenue declined from €7.7 billion in 2024 to €7.1 billion in 2025, which the company attributed primarily to lower production costs. Capacity utilization decreased from 56% to 54%. During 2025, 202,000 vehicles rolled off the production lines in Grünheide, a decline of 9,000 vehicles compared to 2024, which the company attributed to model updates and the integration of new variants, while still maintaining a stable production level. The factory currently produces the Model Y at this facility, which opened in March 2022.
