In a strategic move aimed at strengthening Egypt's automotive ancillary industries, the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has laid the foundation stone for a new ferroalloy production plant with investments totaling $16 million. The new facility, named Nile Ferro Alloys LLC and affiliated with India's Jai Dadi Group, is located in the East Ismailia Industrial Zone (Valley of Technology) in Sinai. The project is designed to supply essential metallic raw materials used in manufacturing engineering components and transportation means, thereby increasing the local content ratio and reducing reliance on imports.

Project Details and Industrial Scope

The new plant spans an area of 80,000 square meters and is expected to create approximately 300 direct job opportunities. Its operations include the production of silico-manganese alloys, manufacturing intermediate iron products from scrap, as well as crushing and processing ferroalloys. These materials are fundamental in producing various types of high-quality steel used in heavy engineering industries, railway components, and several automotive ancillary industries. This diversified production capability will enhance the plant's ability to meet local market demands for strategic raw materials.

Significance for Local Manufacturing Localization

This project holds particular importance amid the government's drive to deepen local manufacturing and localize ancillary industries. Ferroalloys are key components in producing steel used to manufacture numerous metal parts, both within automotive factories and at companies supplying components and spare parts. The plant is expected to improve the efficiency of local supply chains and provide a steady supply of necessary raw materials for the industry, thereby reducing the import bill and boosting the competitiveness of local products.

SCZone's Vision for Sinai Development

Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, stated during the foundation stone ceremony that the East Ismailia area is one of the main axes of the state's plan to develop Sinai. He noted that the authority is working to transform this region into an industrial hub specialized in metallurgical industries and building materials, serving strategic industries, meeting local market needs, and enhancing export opportunities to regional and global markets. The ceremony was attended by Major General Nabil Hassaballah, Governor of Ismailia; Indian Ambassador to Cairo Suresh K. Reddy; and Subash Kumar, Chairman of the Indian group.

SCZone's Investment Attraction Success

Walid Gamal El-Din added that the Suez Canal Economic Zone has successfully attracted investments exceeding $16 billion from around 30 countries over the past four years, including more than $7 billion during the fiscal year 2025/2026. This success reflects growing confidence in Egypt's investment climate and the zone's ability to attract major industrial projects that support the national economy, especially in vital sectors such as automotive ancillary industries, which form a cornerstone of Egypt's automotive sector development strategy.
