General Motors and Tanweer conclude program to qualify 75 female teachers in technology
The Tanweer Foundation for Life Skills Development concluded a training program to qualify 75 Egyptian female teachers in technology and digital education, funded by General Motors Africa and the Middle East. The program covered virtual laboratories, artificial intelligence, and programming, with certifications from the WRO Learn platform. Its impact extended indirectly to more than 5,000 students, reflecting GM's commitment to technical education and women's empowerment in Egypt.
Seventy-five Egyptian female teachers have completed a training program in technology and digital education, supported and funded by General Motors Africa and the Middle East. The program, concluded by the Tanweer Foundation for Life Skills Development, indirectly reached more than 5,000 students across multiple schools. The numbers speak for themselves. This initiative reflects a growing trend among automotive companies to invest in community development beyond the showroom floor.
Program details and training tracks
The program targeted three consecutive groups of teachers from various disciplines, with a focus on schools implementing the national curriculum and girls' schools, as part of Tanweer's Women Teacher Empowerment initiative. Training covered several critical areas, including virtual laboratories, computational thinking, artificial intelligence, and programming. Participants also earned a specialized certificate from the WRO Learn platform, affiliated with the World Robot Olympiad, in leadership and innovation. Each component was designed to give teachers practical tools for the digital classroom.
On the practical side, the training included hands-on applications on the AiDU educational AI platform. The goal was straightforward: help teachers reduce administrative burdens and free up more time for student interaction and classroom development. Technology here serves a clear purpose — easing the daily workload so educators can focus on what matters most. That is teaching.
GM leadership involvement and mentorship sessions
The support went beyond funding. Several leaders from General Motors Africa and the Middle East led a mentoring and group guidance session focused on communication, presentation, and pitching skills. These sessions helped participants prepare and present their graduation projects before evaluation committees. Soft skills now sit at the heart of technical programs. Horhey Plata, President and Managing Director of General Motors Africa and the Middle East, said the company is committed to supporting skills development, technical education, and women's advancement, noting that its partnership with Tanweer aims to contribute to local skills development and support education in Egypt and the region. His statement underscores a clear direction for the automaker's community engagement strategy.
Impact extends to thousands of students
The program's impact doesn't stop at the 75 teachers. More than 5,000 students benefited indirectly through the skills and digital tools their teachers brought back to the classroom. The equation is simple: one trained teacher means dozens of students receiving a more modern education. General Motors, through this partnership, is painting a different picture of what an automotive company can do for society — extending its reach from factories and showrooms to classrooms and the future of the next generation.
