El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company and China's Geely have signed a new cooperation protocol for car production in Egypt, aiming to transfer technology and push local content above 51%. The existing factory in 6th of October City already produces Emgrand and Coolray models with a local content ratio of 45%.
Factory Visit and Partnership Details
An Egyptian-Chinese media delegation witnessed the signing ceremony, followed by an extensive tour of Geely's production lines in 6th of October City. Egyptian engineers explored assembly stages and met local experts working within the system. The delegation also inspected the new facility that began actual production in January 2025.
The partnership with Geely goes beyond simple assembly operations, encompassing intensive training programs for technical staff in both Egypt and China. The objective is clear: empower local workforce to operate according to the Chinese company's approved global standards.
Local Content Ratio and Production Capacity
Current figures reveal a significant leap in domestic manufacturing. Vehicles produced today achieve a 45% local content ratio, with ambitious plans to exceed 51% in upcoming phases. The factory features a dual production line capable of assembling sedans and SUVs, including the Geely Emgrand and Coolray locally.
Planned production capacity reaches approximately 30,000 cars annually, with room for expansion according to market needs. The future roadmap includes opening new export markets, strengthening Egypt's position as a regional automotive hub.
Official Statements on the Partnership
Engineer Mohamed Zakaria, General Manager of Bavarian Auto Manufacturing Company, described the cooperation with the Chinese side as a pivotal step in localizing the industry. He added that transferring modern technology and leveraging Chinese expertise will develop local manufacturing capabilities unprecedentedly. This partnership aligns with state efforts to attract investments and support feeder industries.
The wager on Geely in the Egyptian market is evident through the gradual expansion of local production. The factory started with two models, but its dual production capability allows for additional models later. The Egyptian market expects more locally assembled vehicles at competitive prices.
Deepening local manufacturing also means more job opportunities and developing feeder industries. The new partnership with El Nasr Automotive opens the door for an integrated system combining manufacturing, assembly, training, and exports.
