Geely Reveals: Local Content in Egypt-Assembled Cars Exceeds 48%
Local content in Geely cars assembled inside Egypt has crossed the 48-percent mark. The figure was confirmed by Youssef Ryan, Marketing Manager for Geely Egypt, framing it as part of a wider push to deepen domestic manufacturing and cut reliance on imports in the Egyptian auto sector.
From Full Imports to Local Assembly
Geely began local assembly operations in Egypt during 2025. Before that milestone, the company depended entirely on importing vehicles from overseas, making this transition a fundamental shift in how it approaches the Egyptian market. Ryan explained during his appearance on the 'Arabity' program aired on Radio Egypt that vehicles rolling off local production lines carry the same global specifications adopted in other markets worldwide.
Going local doesn't mean compromising on quality. The company insists every car produced in Egypt matches international standards exactly. That helps build consumer confidence in the domestically built product. That matters for Egyptian buyers seeking reliable vehicles at sensible prices amid ongoing economic fluctuations.
6th of October Plant and Advanced Production Capabilities
Production takes place inside a factory located in the 6th of October City, utilizing some of the most advanced industrial technologies available in vehicle assembly today. The plant possesses enough capacity to accommodate the future expansion plans currently under consideration, as Geely looks to boost output and raise the local content ratio even further down the road.
Expansion plans go beyond local content numbers alone. The company is evaluating the addition of new models to its Egypt-assembled lineup, reflecting a serious long-term commitment to this market. Such moves would support Egypt's automotive industry as a whole, generate fresh employment opportunities. Strengthen the country's position as a regional hub for car manufacturing.
Egypt's automotive sector has drawn growing interest from major global players in recent years. More brands entering the local assembly field creates healthy competition and gives customers a wider range of choices. Geely's experience so far offers a practical example of how viable this direction can be in the Egyptian context.
