EGP 5 Billion Investment: New Strategic Partnership in Egypt's Auto Industry with Chery
EGP 5 billion. That's the scale of investment behind the newly announced partnership agreement signed between El-Araby El-Sewedy Investments Group and Omoda and Jaecoo, two brands operating under the umbrella of global giant Chery. This deal carries industrial weight that goes far beyond a ceremonial signing.
The agreement targets the development of local industrial infrastructure and higher operational capacity, with a clear focus on technology transfer into the Egyptian market. The endgame is straightforward — turning Egypt into a regional hub for car manufacturing and exports.
Massive Investment to Upgrade Industrial Infrastructure
The group plans to inject EGP 5 billion, roughly equivalent to USD 100 million, into upgrading infrastructure and operational systems to meet global standards. This long-term strategy aims to strengthen Egypt's automotive industry, which has been attracting growing interest from major international players.
Is the Egyptian market ready for this level of investment? Signs of growth and rising confidence from global partners suggest it's. This move joins a series of similar steps confirming Egypt's emergence as a promising industrial destination in the region.
Mohamed Salah: Partnership Reflects Confidence in Egypt's Market Future
Engineer Mohamed Salah, CEO of El-Araby El-Sewedy Investments Group, described the agreement as a strategic milestone in the group's journey. He believes Egypt has what it takes to become a leading regional hub for car manufacturing, with confidence backed by the group's long-term vision.
Omoda and Jaecoo, according to the executive, rank among the fastest-growing Chinese brands in European markets outside of China. Cooperation with them extends beyond production to include job creation and transferring technology and know-how to young Egyptian talent.
The announced investment gives a significant push to the local automotive sector and lays the groundwork for a new phase of joint manufacturing between Egyptian and Chinese companies — a development that promises benefits for both the domestic market and future car exports.
